Collection season and festive changes
The 2026/27 service runs fortnightly from 1 June 2026 to 31 May 2027. Collections pause from 1 December through January; the council approved two extra February collections, extending the active season to 44 weeks.
Container options
Use a brown bin with the lid closed, handles facing out and placed at the normal point by 7am. A new brown bin costs £25, and each additional bin needs its own subscription.
Renewal and service dates
The fixed annual fee is £47.50 per bin, including additional bins. Joining late costs the same and still ends on 31 May 2027; Direct Debit renews automatically unless cancelled.
Concessions and payment support
West Lancashire states there are no concessions or additional-bin discounts. Neighbours may share privately, but the bin must be presented at the subscribed property.

What can go in the garden-waste container?
Accepted
Leaves, weeds, grass cuttings, twigs, small branches, cut flowers and suitable garden plants.
Not accepted
Food waste, soil, rubble, stones, plastic bags, plant pots, pet waste and ordinary household rubbish.
When the collection service is not suitable
Local recycling-centre alternative
Suitable household garden waste can be taken to the area’s recycling-centre alternative.
Extra local guidance
Joining later does not reduce the annual fee. A brown bin costs £25 if the property does not already have one.
