Collection season and festive changes

The 2026/27 service runs every two weeks from 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027. Thurrock states there is no winter seasonal pause this year, including across Christmas and New Year.

Container options

The subscription covers a council brown garden-waste bin, collected on the same day as the blue recycling bin. Additional subscribed bins are available; only properly presented paid bins are emptied.

Renewal and service dates

The 2026/27 annual charge starts at £80 for one bin and must be paid in full when subscribing. Each additional fortnightly bin costs £50, and renewal is required every year.

Concessions and payment support

The checked current page does not state a reduced subscription price. An assisted garden-waste collection is available at no extra charge to eligible residents.

What can go in the garden-waste container?

Accepted

Grass cuttings, leaves, flowers, plants, weeds, hedge clippings and suitable small twigs and branches.

Not accepted

Bags and sacks, plastic, soil, mud, plant pots, pet waste, liquids, cans, glass, textiles, nappies, sanitary waste and general refuse.

When the collection service is not suitable

Extra local guidance

The 2026/27 service has no winter seasonal pause and is collected in the same week as the blue recycling bin. The full fee applies even when joining part-way through the year; permit delivery can take up to ten working days.
