Westmorland and Furness introduced the area-wide subscription on 1 April 2026. Subscribed bins remain on the address calendar, including any festive changes.

Check the basics. Put the subscribed bin out by 6am on the calendar date and check its sticker, contents and access. Report a genuine miss through Westmorland and Furness.

What can go in the garden-waste container?

Accepted

Leaves, grass cuttings, hedge trimmings, flowers, non-invasive plants and weeds, branches under 10cm, vegetarian-pet straw or sawdust and small real Christmas trees.

Not accepted

Soil, turf, compost, stones, invasive plants, plastic, metal, glass, thick branches, treated wood, carnivore bedding, food, paper and card.

When the collection service is not suitable

Extra local guidance

Additional bins cost £25 each and every bin requires its own annual subscription. The permit remains with the property.
