Collection season and festive changes
Westmorland and Furness introduced the area-wide subscription on 1 April 2026. Subscribed bins remain on the address calendar, including any festive changes.
Container options
£60 per bin The harmonised service began on 1 April 2026. Fortnightly A valid subscription sticker is required. First bin included First-time subscribers without a bin receive one without a separate bin charge.
Renewal and service dates
The 2026/27 fee is £60 per bin. The subscription stays with the property and a current sticker is required; the initial grace period ended on 28 June 2026.

The checked council guidance does not state a general concessionary price. Confirm the current application terms before payment.

What can go in the garden-waste container?
Accepted
Leaves, grass cuttings, hedge trimmings, flowers, non-invasive plants and weeds, branches under 10cm, vegetarian-pet straw or sawdust and small real Christmas trees.
Not accepted
Soil, turf, compost, stones, invasive plants, plastic, metal, glass, thick branches, treated wood, carnivore bedding, food, paper and card.

Local recycling-centre alternative
Suitable household garden waste can be taken to the area’s recycling-centre alternative.
Extra local guidance
Additional bins cost £25 each and every bin requires its own annual subscription. The permit remains with the property.
