Plan your local garden-waste service

Collection season and festive changes

The free brown-bin service resumed in spring 2026 and runs fortnightly until November. Collections are normally on the same day as the green general-waste bin, with winter service suspended.

Container options

Use the council brown garden-waste bin with the lid fully shut. Put it out by 7am; Wakefield does not collect extra garden waste left beside the wheeled bin.

Renewal and service dates

The checked service is a standard free seasonal collection rather than an annual paid subscription, so there is no separate renewal date or fee.

Concessions and payment support

No payment concession is required because the service is free. Residents can take excess garden waste to a household recycling centre and may collect the resulting soil improver there.

If your garden-waste collection is missed

Check the basics. Wait until the end of the collection day—reports open after 5pm—and check whether the rest of the street was collected. Report through MyAccount if the closed bin was out before 7am.
Use the official reporting route. Reporting windows differ, so follow the live council instructions rather than waiting for the next collection.
